Unveiling the Control Panel: Key Parameters Shaping LLM Outputs
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/unveiling-the-control-panel-key-parameters-shaping-llm-outputs/
Unveiling the Control Panel: Key Parameters Shaping LLM Outputs
Large Language Models (LLMs) have emerged as a transformative force, significantly impacting industries like healthcare, finance, and legal services. For example, a recent study by McKinsey found that several businesses in the finance sector are leveraging LLMs to automate tasks and generate financial reports.
Moreover, LLMs can process and generate human-quality text formats, seamlessly translate languages, and deliver informative answers to complex queries, even in niche scientific domains.
This blog discusses the core principles of LLMs and explores how fine-tuning these models can unlock their true potential, driving innovation and efficiency.
How LLMs Work: Predicting the Next Word in Sequence
LLMs are data-driven powerhouses. They are trained on massive amounts of text data, encompassing books, articles, code, and social media conversations. This training data exposes the LLM to the intricate patterns and nuances of human language.
At the heart of these LLMs lies a sophisticated neural network architecture called a transformer. Consider the transformer as a complex web of connections that analyzes the relationships between words within a sentence. This allows the LLM to understand each word’s context and predict the most likely word to follow in the sequence.
Consider it like this: you provide the LLM with a sentence like “The cat sat on the…” Based on its training data, the LLM recognizes the context (“The cat sat on the“) and predicts the most probable word to follow, such as “mat.” This process of sequential prediction allows the LLM to generate entire sentences, paragraphs, and even creative text formats.
Core LLM Parameters: Fine-Tuning the LLM Output
Now that we understand the basic workings of LLMs, let’s explore the control panel, which contains the parameters that fine-tune their creative output. By adjusting these parameters, you can steer the LLM toward generating text that aligns with your requirements.
1. Temperature
Imagine temperature as a dial controlling the randomness of the LLM’s output. A high-temperature setting injects a dose of creativity, encouraging the LLM to explore less probable but potentially more interesting word choices. This can lead to surprising and unique outputs but also increases the risk of nonsensical or irrelevant text.
Conversely, a low-temperature setting keeps the LLM focused on the most likely words, resulting in more predictable but potentially robotic outputs. The key is finding a balance between creativity and coherence for your specific needs.
2. Top-k
Top-k sampling acts as a filter, restricting the LLM from choosing the next word from the entire universe of possibilities. Instead, it limits the options to the top k most probable words based on the preceding context. This approach helps the LLM generate more focused and coherent text by steering it away from completely irrelevant word choices.
For example, if you’re instructing the LLM to write a poem, using top-k sampling with a low k value, e.g., k=3, would nudge the LLM towards words commonly associated with poetry, like “love,” “heart,” or “dream,” rather than straying towards unrelated terms like “calculator” or “economics.”
3. Top-p
Top-p sampling takes a slightly different approach. Instead of restricting the options to a fixed number of words, it sets a cumulative probability threshold. The LLM then only considers words within this probability threshold, ensuring a balance between diversity and relevance.
Let’s say you want the LLM to write a blog post about artificial intelligence (AI). Top-p sampling allows you to set a threshold that captures the most likely words related to AI, such as “machine learning” and “algorithms”. However, it also allows for exploring less probable but potentially insightful terms like “ethics” and “limitations“.
4.  Token Limit
Imagine a token as a single word or punctuation mark. The token limit parameter allows you to control the total number of tokens the LLM generates. This is a crucial tool for ensuring your LLM-crafted content adheres to specific word count requirements. For instance, if you need a 500-word product description, you can set the token limit accordingly.
5. Stop Sequences
Stop sequences are like magic words for the LLM. These predefined phrases or characters signal the LLM to halt text generation. This is particularly useful for preventing the LLM from getting stuck in endless loops or going off tangents.
For example, you could set a stop sequence as “END” to instruct the LLM to terminate the text generation once it encounters that phrase.
6. Block Abusive Words
The “block abusive words” parameter is a critical safeguard, preventing LLMs from generating offensive or inappropriate language. This is essential for maintaining brand safety across various businesses, especially those that rely heavily on public communication, such as marketing and advertising agencies, customer services, etc..
Furthermore, blocking abusive words steers the LLM towards generating inclusive and responsible content, a growing priority for many businesses today.
By understanding and experimenting with these controls, businesses across various sectors can leverage LLMs to craft high-quality, targeted content that resonates with their audience.
Beyond the Basics: Exploring Additional LLM Parameters
While the parameters discussed above provide a solid foundation for controlling LLM outputs, there are additional parameters to fine-tune models for high relevance. Here are a few examples:
Frequency Penalty: This parameter discourages the LLM from repeating the same word or phrase too frequently, promoting a more natural and varied writing style.
Presence Penalty: It discourages the LLM from using words or phrases already present in the prompt, encouraging it to generate more original content.
No Repeat N-Gram: This setting restricts the LLM from generating sequences of words (n-grams) already appearing within a specific window in the generated text.  It helps prevent repetitive patterns and promotes a smoother flow.
Top-k Filtering: This advanced technique combines top-k sampling and nucleus sampling (top-p). It allows you to restrict the number of candidate words and set a minimum probability threshold within those options. This provides even finer control over the LLM’s creative direction.
Experimenting and finding the right combination of settings is key to unlocking the full potential of LLMs for your specific needs.
LLMs are powerful tools, but their true potential can be unlocked by fine-tuning core parameters like temperature, top-k, and top-p. By adjusting these LLM parameters, you can transform your models into versatile business assistants capable of generating various content formats tailored to specific needs.

His mouth moved without it telling it to, then closed like whoever was possessing him didn’t know what to say either. There was something going on, something Etho could feel but didn’t understand. They were standing on the edge of the world, and Etho didn’t know how to tell Bdubs he was out of time. Was he out of time? Maybe he was just going insane again. Maybe-
“Etho, there’s a lot of void energy going on right now, can you focus-”
You can’t outsmart a god. You can only run.

[ READ HERE ] Latest addition to the Should've Could've Would've series and sequel to the YCAOverse byyyy incredible great @goingdownorup cinemaaaa is HERE and we are BACK IN THE BUILDING!!!
[rambling undercut]
you've fallen for my trap card, ramblings not about the actual fic yet sorry - I'm going to talk about art technicalities at you now :]
Ver without the text:
Tumblr media
I drew this up on a whim immediately after finishing the first chapter. Other than it being fanart, this year I want to think smarter when making elaborate pieces - this being the one of the first experiments on it.
Tumblr media
sketches have always been my starting foundation I usually go through a few iterations gradually building off the rough thumbnail all the way to lineart. Here I'm establishing perspective and rhythm (movement), using background and props to better frame the emphasis (focal) rather than overwhelm the eye with unnecessary detail.
Shirahama's Witch Hat Atelier manga panels were an inspiration for the lineart (reoccuring character. WHA changed my life)
Tumblr media
I even started actually putting base colours instead of skipping to shading... BASE COLOURS. BASE COLOURS WITHOUT SHADING? Crazy world we live in. Above were me testing which colours worked best for the background and purpose. Ethubs look a little out of place atm - this changes in solid filters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shading itself was a lot of back and forth in constant fumbles to maintain the rhythm instructed in the lineart, adding emphasis how values needed to carry the visual communication of this piece especially with a line heavy background because of the wheatfields. Everything uses either cel shading, filters, or gradients - I wanted to find a way to add complexity to my regular rendering style without needing to manually blend/paint (takes too long)
During this stage, Heikala's watercolour art was the study in crowd control (backgrounds with organic repetition)
Tumblr media
Smaller misc details that couldn't fit anywhere in the previous pages. Overall while there are some things I still would change/redo, overall very pleased as a first (second) attempt ^_^

Liminal!Jason part 4...
Masterpost
When Red Robin called in for backup about a possibly mentally compromised Red Hood, the family assumed the worst. Mental incapacitation for Red Hood could mean bodies lining the streets. The family responded as quickly as possible.
Batman and Robin headed straight to the location. And Batman started assuming the worst, filtering through scenarios in his head of Hood suffering as he is forced to murder innocents.
Red Robin assures, that they are in a safe location. There is a possible civilian with them, but Red states suspicions about telepathy and mind control. Robin is told to maintain distance from the civilian as they approach. They don’t know how they are affecting Hood.
They arrive at the apartment, Red managing to separate Hood and the target. Batman goes in to sedate the target. The target cries out as Batman grabs him, inserting the needle and plunging the medication into him. The cry doesn’t last long and the target is asleep, restrained and being brought outside quickly, as Hood moves to intercept. Robin is told to take the target to the car and he does, as Red and Batman secure Hood.
They are all in the Batmobile and headed to the cave in under five minutes from their arrival to the apartment.
Robin watches as Father secures Jason and the stranger in different cells. He listens as Red Robin tells them about how Hood stopped in the middle of patrol, following a sound only he could hear, to a boy that started communicating with him via unknown means.
Hood said he didn’t suspect telepathy, telling Red that he was hearing their conversations out loud. He did not seem to have any insight on what the language was or how he was communicating, stating he “didn’t know how he was making the noises,” and exclaiming surprise when Red informed him that only Jason was hearing them.
Somewhere near the end of this conversation, Damian hears a growl. It was choppy and loud, claiming hurt-confused-angry. Damian turned to face the cells. He debates the merits of going to comfort those in the cells, explaining to them what is going on, and staying to explain to Father and Drake what is going on once Drake finishes with his ceaseless jabbering. When he hears a whimper that makes his chest hurt, full of alone-panic-hurt, it makes the decision for him. Damian is heading towards the cells without a second thought, heart pounding in response to the panic in the other’s voice. He is almost there when he hears a keen.
The noise causes such a physical reaction that he nearly stumbles, causing a churning and urgent need to help. His quick walk turned into a run towards the cells. The keen was a different voice. They’re both panicking in the cells.
Damian arrives at the cells, and is about to reach for the panel of the first one, wanting to open it, to help. The keening has continued, full of panic and confusion. They’re in distress, stuck and alone. Damian can help, he can explain what’s going on, he can let them out.
But he’s stopped just as he reaches the door, a voice calls “Robin, what are you doing!” A hand grips his wrist.
A rumble comes from inside the closest cell. Jason. He’s calmed some, annoyed but understanding of the situation now, and Damian breathes a sigh of relief as the other responds, confused and wary, but coming down from the panic.
There’s a purr, and then the sweetest churr, and Damian can’t help but let out a soft chuff in response. A question and declaration of support. If this is the communication Drake has been obsessing over, then everything is okay.
Damian just needs to get to them so he can explain. Damian lets out a frustrated huff, when Bruce and Drake pull at him, questioning what the hell he thinks he was doing. Damian just wants to help Jason and the other boy, and his breathy huff cuts out in a short, clipped whine as he is forced away, pain starting to blossom in his wrist from the force of Bruce’s direction.
A short growl erupts from Jason’s cell at the pain in Damian’s whine. A churr comes from the stranger’s cell, confused and slightly scared, but supportive and Damian almost balks at the stranger’s kindness in this situation. Damian is quick to let out a soft churr of his own in response, saying okay-patience-help.
Bruce and Drake are looking at him with concern, and Damian straightens himself. “What?”
They share a look with each other, Damian hears a churr from both Jason and the boy full of patience-warytrust-concern, and Bruce gives him a full-body lookover when he looks back at him.
“Why were you trying to open the cells, Robin?”
Damian squared his shoulders, and in a voice like he was giving a report, stated “They were in distress. I thought it would be wise to help keep them from panicking.”
Drake’s brow furrowed and Damian just knew he was overthinking. “How did you know they were in distress?”
Damian tried to reign in the snark, but he didn’t fully manage it. “That is your question. Not, ‘are they okay now?’, maybe ‘do they still need help?'. Where is your concern for your brother Drake?”
Bruce pinched the bridge of his nose. “Do they need help?” His eyes were closed. Damian almost felt sorry for the fear he must have felt for his compromised child. But everything is fine.
“They are stable for now.”
Drake is starting to look like he wants to strangle him, and Damian can relate to the urge. Unfortunately, that is frowned upon in their current circles.
“How did you know they were in distress, Robin?”
Damian almost wants to ignore Drake, but Bruce is looking to him for the answer as well. He clicks his tongue. “I heard them, obviously. The language they use to communicate is one with which I am familiar.”

Using NRaas Master Controller's Filters, Skill Stamps and Hot Keys - Part 2
Skill Stamps and Hot Keys
This is part 2 of my NRaas Master Controller tutorial on how I use filters, skill stamps and hot keys! (Tumblr wouldn't let me have my fun and use more than 30 images on one post, so 2 parts it is 🤨)
See also:
Using NRaas Master Controller's Filters, Skill Stamps and Hot Keys - Part 1: Filters
Tutorial under the header!
Tumblr media
Mods needed for Filters, Skill Stamps and Hot Keys to show up:
Master Controller v.135
Master Controller Cheats v.134+
(9th Feb 2025 - desiree-uk correction: Additional mods needed for filters and door-locking system (my apologies! 😌) GoHere v.45 Tagger v.5
Skill Stamps:
I use skill stamps to add a whole bunch of skills to a single sim or sims in bulk!
When adding a newly created sim to your town, they may not have any skills yet until you play them, but a skill stamp can quickly add some skills to them as if they were already played for a while.
MC Cheats Interaction: Skill Stamp> Add New Stamp
Allows the user to define a skill set to apply during "Advanced \ Skill Stamp". Once added, selecting one from the listing will allow you to specify the levels for each skill.
I want some sims to be able to have some basic skills such as cooking.
Click on Town Hall/Computer>NRaas>Settings> Skill Stamp
Add New Stamp: name the skill stamp (e.g Basic Skills).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The skill stamp is listed. Click on it and set the cooking level to whatever you want it to be. I have both the regular cooking skill and the hidden child-skill level, just because. I don't know. 😄
I maxed out the child skill to 3 and set the regular skill to 1.
Tumblr media
I've set other skill stamps such as ones for artistic sims (painting, photography, writing) and outdoor sims (athletic, waterskiing, gardening, scuba diving, snowboarding, diving, windsurfing)
I also set one for sims who I want to be able to drive! We now have the 'Sims Need Driving Lessons' mod by the awesome Phoebejaysims! All sims (except NPCS) can't drive until they've reached the maximum level of the driving skill.
Of course you'd want some sims to be able to drive in an already established town, right?
I want my adults and elders to at least have the driving skill, even if some don't have a car yet.
Set a skill stamp for driving:
Click on Town Hall/Computer>NRaas>Settings>Skill Stamp
Name the skill to something driving related, e.g Sims With Driving Licence.
Click on the 'Driving' skill.
Max it out to 3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adding skill stamps to a sim with no skills:
Tumblr media
Click on a single sim: NRaas>MC>Advanced>Skill Stamp
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You see the list of my skill stamps. When I click on each one, all the skills under the stamps will be added to the sim all at once (you'll see the notices that appear in the top right hand corner pop up notifying you the sims have the skills.)
Check their skill panel to see all their added skills. The driving skill is hidden, so it won't show on the panel, but you can check the sim has it by checking their skill levels in Sim>MC>Advanced>Skill Level. It should show 'Driving: 3'
To add the skill stamp to multiple adults and elders, I'll use the filter I made earlier in Part 1.
Click on Town Hall/Computer>Sim>Advanced>Skill Stamp
The filter 'AGE: Adults/Elders' is listed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Click on it to see a list of all the adult and elder sims.
From the list you can select some of the sims who you want to be able to drive or scroll to the top and click 'All'.
Tumblr media
The Skill Stamp list will pop up - choose the 'Sims with driving licence' skill stamp. The skill stamp will be applied. As stated before, you won't see the hidden skill in the sims panel, but they'll be able to drive. You can of course check their skill level via MC>Sims>Advanced>Skill Level.
While you're at it, you can edit some of the selected sims driving skill levels according to whether you want them to do a driving test, theory test or have their skill maxed out so they can drive straightaway when you give them a car...
PJsims mod interactions notes:
If they are level -1 or 0, sims can first do their theory test which will increase driving skill to level 1.
Once they are level 2 in driving, they can do their driving test which, if passed, will automatically max out their driving skill.
Now you can make and add as many skill stamps to any single sim or multiple sims in a filter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hot Keys:
MC Interaction: Hot Keys
Allows the user to specify which interactions are to be shown directly under the "NRaas" menu
You can add any MC interaction to the uppermost level of the NRaas menu when you click on a sim, household or terrain as short-cuts, especially your most often-used interactions.
I added the 'skill stamp' and other interactions as hot keys so I can easily edit a sim when I click on one.
Click on Town Hall/Computer>Settings>Hot Keys
Tumblr media
I added:
* Change Autonomy
* Reset Sim
* Skill Level
* Skill Stamp
Make sure 'True' is next to the interactions you want to see in the NRaas menu:
Tumblr media
Click on a sim or the terrain and you'll hopefully see all your created hot keys.
See my screenshot - all 4 are there!
Tumblr media
With the skill interactions you can quickly and easily set a sims skill level or add a skill stamp to them when you click on the sim in less clicks than clicking on multiple dialog boxes.
The other two are self explanatory, turn on/off a sim's autonomy and reset a sim.
Note: The more hot keys you add, the slower the pie menu will take to pop up, so keep that in mind.
If you still don't want to click so many times in the menu to find your interactions, you can use Arro's UI Tweaks mod (currently in testing, soon to be released - it's an excellent mod, I highly recommend it! 👍🏾) You can search the menu by clicking on the magnifying glass icon on the menu or press the 'F' key and type the interaction you want, using a full or partial word!
That's it! That's how I use filters, skill stamps and hotkeys. It will become second nature the more you use them and they can be as easy or as complex as you want them.
If you use them already, how do you set them up and in what scenarios? Share in the comments or let me know if I can add or explain anything! :)
Lemme just say that reading these panels and watching the scene on screen are two very different experiences and I would absolutely recommend doing both.
Reading the panels I was just kinda like "damn that was kinda dirty."
Watching it, however, made me feel just as betrayed as Natsu looked when he got back up. 😭
Like reading it, I thought Natsu was going overboard, but actually watching it and hearing it, I understand his anger. This man felt betrayed because she used his biggest weakness against him. Herself. She knew he'd feel guilty and hesitate. It wasn't just dirty, it was underhanded, and I don't think I've ever seen so much betrayal on Natsu's face.
He looked so hurt.
Yes, she was a yokai being controlled, so no, I'm not mad at her specifically. But for a moment, I was actually mad at her like he was.
Sometimes, it's harder to get that feeling just from reading the manga. But the manga also has better representation visually.
Like I cannot recommend enough that people both read and watch it. The raw feeling carried in their voices when everything's moving 100 miles a frame is so exciting. And the manga is less filtered than the show so there's more weight to each panel. Both experiences are amazing.
10/10 for this scene specifically.
THE MET GALA had been a blur of flashing lights, champagne toasts, and whispered compliments. but none of it mattered to sebastian—not really. not when you looked like that.
your dress, sleek and black with a slit that kissed the top of your thigh, had been driving him insane all night. and the way you leaned into him on the red carpet, smiling softly as if he was your whole world? he swore he nearly proposed right then and there.
but now, tucked away in one of the quieter corners of the building—a deserted stairwell lit only by low sconces and the occasional muffled music filtering in from the gala below—he finally had you to himself.
“you know,” he murmured, crowding you gently against the cool wood-paneled wall, “you’ve been testing my patience since you stepped out of the car in that dress.”
you looked up at him with a soft smile, feigning innocence. “i haven’t done anything.”
“oh, baby,” he said, voice low and thick with want. “that’s the problem.”
he leaned in to kiss you—slow, deep, reverent. one hand cupped the side of your face, thumb stroking your cheek as if you were the most fragile, precious thing in the world. his other hand slid down your side, fingers ghosting over the slit in your dress.
“let me touch you,” he whispered against your lips. “right here. let me take care of you, princess.”
you nodded, breath hitching. “yes, please…”
that was all that he needed to hear.
sebastian dropped to his knees with a groan, hands parting your legs with quiet desperation. your dress pooled delicately at your hips as he pushed it aside, revealing your already damp panties.
“fuck,” he breathed, brushing a kiss to the inside of your thigh. “you’re already so wet for me.”
his fingers hooked under the lace and tugged them aside, not even bothering to take them off. and then—his mouth was on you. soft licks at first, warm and slow, like he had all the time in the world. his hands gripped your thighs, keeping you steady as your fingers threaded through his hair, hips already starting to tremble.
“seb—fuck, someone could see—”
“no one’s coming up here,” he murmured, his voice warm and smug against your skin. “and even if they did… they’d see how good i treat my girl.”
you whimpered as he licked deeper, flattening his tongue against your clit until your knees nearly buckled. when you tugged his hair, he groaned, the sound vibrating through you.
he pulled back after a minute, lips shiny, eyes dark.
“turn around.”
you obeyed on instinct, bracing your hands on the stair railing. he lifted your dress again, pushed your panties aside once more, and pressed a kiss to your spine.
“still okay, sweet girl?”
you nodded, breathless. “just need you. please.”
that was all he needed. he freed himself from the confines of his slacks and boxers, not bothering with anything but the feel of you—warm, slick, ready.
when he slid into you, it was slow and careful, his body flush against yours as he pressed his chest to your back.
“god, you feel perfect,” he groaned into your ear. “always take me so well.”
his thrusts were measured, deep, controlled—but you could feel the restraint in every movement. his fingers gripped your hips, keeping you in place, keeping you grounded as he filled you again and again.
“you’re doin’ so good, sweetheart,” he whispered, brushing your hair aside to kiss your neck. “so fuckin’ good f’me.”
the sound of skin against skin, your soft gasps, and the occasional distant thump of music made it feel even more forbidden. but sebastian kept you wrapped in warmth, in praise, in love.
when you came, he was right there with you, whispering encouragements into your skin as your body trembled in his arms.
he didn’t pull out right away—just held you there, buried inside, kissing your shoulder and letting you come down gently.
eventually, he helped you turn back around, brushing your hair back, smoothing your dress.
“still think I didn’t deserve that look you gave me on the carpet?” he teased softly.
you grinned, eyes still hazy. “if you keep treating me like this, you’re gonna have to put a ring on it.”
sebastian’s smile turned boyish—adoring.
“baby,” he said, brushing a kiss to your nose, “i already picked it out.”
Part 3
—//—
Neither of you spoke when you stepped out into the open, but your feet slowed. Then stopped.
You both turned at the same time.
Back towards the mall.
You didn’t say it. You didn’t need to. Something unspoken passed between you; the kind of mutual decision born not out of logic, but need. You weren’t ready to split off again. Not just yet.
So you went back.
Not for supplies. Not for safety.
Just… to walk.
The mall was strangely peaceful. Shafts of sun filtered down through broken skylights, casting golden stripes across ruined tile and old storefronts. The air was still, quiet, even warm in places. As you wandered, your footsteps echoed through the vast emptiness like the ghost of some lost civilisation.
You passed through the food court - long-abandoned trays, plastic chairs overturned, remnants of teenage jobs and after-class coffee runs. You moved through a clothing shop, untouched for weeks, where a mannequin lay face-down in a pile of scarves. Jenna flicked its hand with her boot as she passed.
It felt like drifting through memory.
You ended up near the central atrium, where the ceiling had half-collapsed.
That was where Jenna finally said it.
“We should stay together.”
You turned your head.
She wasn’t looking at you, just squinting up toward the beams of light above. Her voice was too casual, like she hadn’t just dropped the one thing you’d both been dancing around for days.
“Yeah,” you said, after a pause. “I was thinking that too.”
You expected tension.
Instead - relief.
She glanced at you then, and something softened around her mouth. “It’d be safer.”
“Easier,” you added.
“Less risk.”
“And, you know…” You shrugged. “Someone to watch your back.”
She arched an eyebrow. “You mean I can finally stop saving your ass every other day?”
You smirked. “I save your ass. We just don’t keep score.”
Jenna huffed a breath, almost a laugh. “We should start.”
It was easy. Too easy. You didn’t realise how much lighter you both moved until that moment, like some quiet part of you had unclenched for the first time in weeks. The thought of being alone again suddenly felt worse than any horde.
“I’ve got space,” she said. “Back at my place. Tall windows. Good vantage. I set up tripwire on two exits.”
You nodded slowly. “Mine’s got food stores, water collectors, a functional solar panel. It’s more hidden, though. Less obvious.”
Jenna tilted her head. “More isolated, you mean.”
“Quieter,” you said. “Which matters.”
“Visibility matters more.”
You blinked. “I thought we were just talking.”
“I am talking.”
There it was - the edge.
You felt your shoulders tense.
“Look, I’m not dragging my entire setup to your half-collapsing loft just because you have a good view of a dead shopping strip,” you said.
Jenna stepped forward. “And I’m not trekking through zombie-infested suburbs just to hole up in your silent apocalypse cabin with no sightlines.”
You crossed your arms. “You’re impossible.”
“And you’re obsessed with control.”
“Excuse me?”
“Everything has to be your way. Your plan. Your list. Your schedule-”
“You showed up and hijacked half of it!”
“Because you needed help!”
“Oh, don’t pretend this is altruism-”
“I’m not!” she snapped. “But I didn’t sign up to be your backup.”
“Well, I didn’t ask you to!”
The words echoed down the corridor - harsh and too loud. The silence that followed was worse.
Jenna’s jaw was tight. Her hands clenched and unclenched.
You didn’t wait for her to say anything else.
You turned and walked away.
-
You didn’t slam the doors. You didn’t yell after her. You didn’t even know what you were walking toward - just away. Away from her.
You needed air. Space. Anything but the taste of those words in your mouth.
You kept walking through the quieter parts of the mall, past shuttered shops and half-looted stores, until the sound of your breathing finally slowed again.
That’s when you saw it.
A real estate office. Tucked beside an old pretzel stand and a nail salon with shattered glass. Its windows were smeared with soot, but intact. The sign still read SOMERSET HOMES - FIND YOUR FOREVER PLACE.
You stepped closer.
The glass door creaked as you pushed it open.
Inside, the room was dim, but untouched. The kind of office people used to walk into on Saturdays with their partners. The desk still held a cracked mug full of dried pens. A phone sat off the hook, beeping every few seconds into the dead quiet.
But what caught your eye were the flyers.
Dozens of them. Pinned to the back wall, clipped to wire racks. Colourful, faded, but mostly intact. Photos of houses lined up in neat rows. Front porches. Rooftop terraces. Gated gardens. A few were torn. Some were sun-bleached. But others showed beautiful villas tucked behind trees. Brick cottages with cellars. Two-storey homes with metal fences and side garages.
Empty. Untouched. Waiting.
You stared.
And slowly, the ache in your chest began to shift.
You didn’t need her house.
She didn’t need yours.
You could find one together.
Pick it out. Make it safe. Build it from the ground up. Yours and hers.
Together.
Really together.
Your fingers couldn't strip the flyers from the wire racks fast enough. Not even looking at what's on there; you and Jenna would decide together.
You didn’t smile.
But something inside you steadied.
And for the first time all morning, your feet turned back toward the furniture store.
Toward her.
-
The silence hit harder once Jenna was alone again.
She returned to the furniture store slowly, footsteps echoing louder than before. Y/N’s absence made the space feel gutted - like something vital had been ripped out and the air hadn’t caught up yet.
She dropped her pack against the dresser with a dull thump, her hands flexing open and closed a few times before she sat down on the edge of the bed. For a second, she just stared at the wall.
Then she stood back up.
She needed to move.
The public bathroom wasn’t far, just down the service corridor, past an abandoned cleaning supply closet and a row of lockers. Her boots sounded too loud in the narrow hall. Her chest still tight from the argument. From the stupid way it spiralled. She’d just - she hadn’t meant to-
She pushed open the bathroom door.
It was cold. Stale.
A single cracked fluorescent bulb flickered overhead. One of the sinks had detached from the wall and lay in pieces on the floor. The mirror was intact, though. Mostly. A crack through the bottom edge like a lightning bolt frozen mid-flash.
Jenna stepped up to the sink and turned the tap on out of habit.
Nothing happened.
Of course.
She stared at it for a moment anyway - like maybe, if she stood there long enough, water would come. Something would come. A break. A fix. A sound that wasn’t her own thoughts grinding themselves raw.
She twisted it again.
Nothing.
She looked up.
And there she was - in the mirror. Hollow-eyed. Jaw clenched. A smear of dirt on her cheek, dried blood near her collarbone, a healing cut at the corner of her mouth. Hair fraying out of its braid.
She barely recognised herself.
But that wasn’t what hit her.
What hit her was the angle. The light. The silence.
The bathroom.
It didn’t even smell the same, no floral soap or paper towels, but the memory still carved its way in, clean and sharp.
-
It had been after a class debate - bioethics, maybe. One of those long, heavy topics that got under everyone’s skin. But it wasn’t about the topic. Not really. Not with Y/N. Never with Y/N.
She remembered the way they’d gone at each other. Words like knives. Controlled, but only just. The room faded out when Y/N spoke - not because she cared what she had to say, but because she couldn’t not care. Y/N was impossible. Always so sure, so sharp, and always looking at her like she was the problem.
Jenna had pushed back - like she always did.
It got heated.
Too heated.
The professor had sent them both to the counsellor's office to “cool down.”
Y/N didn’t go.
Jenna did - for about two minutes. Then she got up, irritated, pacing, blood still buzzing in her ears. She knew exactly where Y/N had gone.
She found her in the women's bathroom.
Pacing in front of the mirrors. Jaw clenched. Eyes stormy. Wiping her face like she couldn’t scrub the argument off her skin.
Jenna pushed the door open harder than necessary.
“What the hell are you doing?” she snapped.
Y/N didn’t answer. Just threw her a look - hot and sharp and furious.
“You’re supposed to be with the counsellor.”
“Screw the counsellor,” Y/N shot back.
Of course.
Jenna took two steps forward. “You can’t just ignore it. This isn’t just about you-”
“Isn’t it?”
She laughed once. Bitter. “You think you're the only one who’s pissed off? You think I don’t-?”
And then something in her chest snapped.
Not out of nowhere. Not really. It had been building for weeks. Months. Years, maybe. Every time Y/N challenged her. Every time she saw that flicker of something in her eyes - like hate, but not quite. Like they were circling the same fire and both of them were too stubborn to admit they’d already been burned.
She didn’t plan it.
One second she was shouting. The next she had Y/N against the wall.
And then her mouth was on hers.
It wasn’t soft. Wasn’t gentle. Wasn’t even really a kiss.
It was collision.
Heat and teeth and breath, her hands braced on the wall, Y/N’s fingers curling in her shirt like she didn’t know whether to shove her away or pull her closer.
Jenna remembered the sound Y/N made - a small, broken gasp - the way her body responded even as her mind caught up a beat too late. The way something wild slipped loose between them in that tiny, cracked bathroom.
She could still feel it. That chaos. That ache.
And then -
The door creaked open.
A girl walked in. Stopped. Blinked. “Oh shit,” she muttered, then backed out like the moment hadn’t just shattered into a hundred jagged pieces.
Jenna stepped back immediately. Too fast. Her chest heaving, mouth parted.
Y/N looked at her like she’d been hit.
She needed to leave.
"Jenna-"
She didn’t look back.
And neither of them brought it up again.
Not once.
-
Now, in this ruined mall bathroom with a broken mirror and dead plumbing, Jenna blinked slowly at her own reflection.
She turned the tap again, just once, and watched it not respond.
Then she said, quietly - to herself, to the mirror, maybe even to you:
“I shouldn’t have left.”
Her voice sounded strange in the empty space. Soft.
She gripped the edge of the sink.
It had never been just about the arguments. Not then. Not now.
She’d kissed you because she wanted to win. And because she didn’t want to win. Because you’d always gotten under her skin and she didn’t know how else to get you out.
She didn’t regret it.
She regretted not saying anything after.
Jenna stood there a little longer.
Then she wiped her face with her sleeve, adjusted the straps on her vest, and turned off the useless tap.
This time, when she looked in the mirror, she held her own gaze a little longer.
And then she left the bathroom - not slower, not faster. Just steadier.
And she hoped you’d come back.
#One, Two, Three, Kiss!
Tumblr media
Sypnosis: You get put on a kiss cam with another person while watching their game live. How do they react?
Part 1: Yoichi Isagi, Micheal Kaiser, Chigiri Hyoma, Mikage Reo
Warnings: Jealousy, not proofread, the reader goes on the kiss cam with both girls and guys, short, cursing, a little suggestive depending on how dirty your mind is
Featuring: Shoei Barou (@randomnumber20, @ariachaos), Ryusei Shidou, Sae Itoshi, Rin Itoshix GN! reader
Tumblr media
Shoei Barou
You shifted closer to your armrest, away from the guy next to you to highlight your reluctance. It felt more than just sickening - the cheers from the audience to go through with it, the shockwaves sent through your body when you felt a hand caress your forearm. You wished it was anyone other than the guy in the kiss cam with you, his touch disgustingly gentle.
Your feeling didn't last long though as you noticed the guy's grip on you loosen significantly, his fingers trembling against your skin. It felt like there was a sudden chill all of sudden. He gulped, eyes locked onto whatever or whoever was behind you, towering over the both of you.
"Babe!" You cheer with a smile, your shoulders dropping and a sigh of relief escaping you. Barou's glare melted away at the sight of you, placing a reassuring pat on your shoulder - though, it didn't take a genius to sense the anger seething out of him. "I'll win the game for you later, go grab some snacks for yourself first, I'll pay."
You felt Barou place a cap on your head, pushing the peak of the cap down so you wouldn't be able to see the horrific scene in front of you. You could hear a yelp and, from the corner of your eye, you spotted blood. For a moment, you felt pity for the guy, but that quickly dissipated.
Tumblr media
Ryusei Shidou
Being in a relationship with Shidou was like adopting a clingy, violent, rabid dog from the street. Did you love him? Absolutely, without a doubt. Did you question why you loved him every moment of the day? Hell fucking yeah. Every time he scored, he would stare in your direction and give you the biggest shit-eating grin ever. Having front-row seats only made it easier to hear him ramble and boast. Though, it did make you feel content to see him so motivated.
Oh boy, did that all change when the realization dawned on you - you were on a kiss cam with the person next to you. The gaudy effects and filters on the screen, the hearts littered across the panel of you and that poor person, you could feel a migraine kicking in as you imagined the scene Shidou would stir up.
A hand wrapped around your waist, yanking you away from the person. "Shidou, don't do anything stupid." You attempted to bring him back to his (nonexistent) senses, though it was in vain. He was already cracking his knuckles, a hand holding the collar of their shirt and his other hand balled into a fist.
Desperate times call for desperate measures - you try to reassure yourself as you pinch his earlobe and pull him close to you. You lower your voice to a whisper, a little flustered as you part your lips. "Score 10 more goals and win the match, then I'll spend the night with you."
Without a single atom of hesitation in his body, he let go of the person's collar - practically forgetting about their existence. Shidou's hands are on your waist, pressing kisses all over your face, his giggling paired with a dopey smile. "10 more goals and I'll have the best night of my life? You've got yourself a deal."
Tumblr media
Sae Itoshi
This man is completely absorbed in his match, he couldn't care less or so he believed. However, that unpleasant, irked expression on his face when he saw you on the screen with another girl said otherwise. He could control himself, of course, hands tucked comfortably into his pocket to hide his clenched fists, fingernails digging into the flesh of his palm, eyes lingering on the screen for a bit too long.
You make eye contact with the girl next to you and he notices it, his jaw clenching and his body tensing up. You talk to her for a moment shaking your head firmly right after. "I have a boyfriend."
His lips part and his shoulders drop, chin dipping down. The camera pans elsewhere and he scans the audience to find you, fishing his phone out from his pocket. You feel your phone buzz in your hand, instinctively checking it to see Sae message you.
"Don't scare me like that again."
He could see his favorite, oh-so-charming grin on your face, as you rested your chin on your palm. As your fingers gently tap against your phone screen, his gaze alternates between you and his phone screen. "Yessir <3"
He chuckles softly. "I'll treat you to something special after the game, be ready"
Tumblr media
Rin Itoshi
He clicked his tongue when he saw you on the screen. Rin was already pissed with how the match was going, but seeing you on that idiotic kiss cam - not to mention, during the break from the match -only soured his rotten mood even more. His eyes narrow, the already secure grip he had on his phone hardening.
"Switch seats" You glanced at your phone, reading the message Rin sent. "Make sure that idiot doesn't try anything."
You smirk. The camera must have caught it because Rin immediately replied back, "What's with that smile?" Your hands lay on the armrests of your chair. Instead of moving like you were advised - no, instructed to, you melt deeper into the chair, really getting yourself comfortable.
"What are you trying?" He texts with one hand and the both of you hear the emcee announce that the game is starting where it originally left off.
You noticed his game has been a little off and while you weren't sure if it was nerves or the fact that you were watching, you wanted to provide your beloved boyfriend a boost of motivation. Crossing your legs, you text Rin after skimming through the messages he spammed you. "If you don't want this guy to try anything, you better wrap this match up quickly, good luck Rinrin <3"
Tucking your phone away, you stare as Rin dashes out first. He shoots you a glare paired with a smirk and an incredulous scoff. You check your phone for one last time to prepare yourself for an exhilarating match, humming to yourself as you notice a new message from Rin.
"You better keep your eyes on me, during the match and tonight as well"
